We’re on a mission.
To humanize migration. To connect with every vulnerable person in the migrant community to amplify their voices and help dignify their experiences.
We’re here to document their stories as they tell them. To advocate for change by keeping people, not numbers, at the core of the migration narrative. And to preserve those stories for the historical record.

“Thanks for always giving me hope. You stood by us and made us believe people are different.”

The story.
And nothing but the story
Migrants of the Mediterranean is a global Humanitarian Storytelling™ NGO documenting the Journey Stories of people in the migrant community, first in Lampedusa, Italy, starting in 2016, and now across Europe and at the US-Mexico border.
The Humanitarian Storytelling methodology is a hybrid of humanitarianism, journalism and contemporary history, creating a platform to dignify and give voice to people who are unheard in the migrant community. We show up for them, so we can bring you a document of the truth. To foster empathy. To hold for history. To advocate for change now.
“The essence of love you give to people changes our lives.”

The Journey Story Archive
Over 100 stories—and counting—make up our Journey Story Archive. See their faces, read their stories, and meet every incredible person we work for across Italy, The Netherlands and Europe—and now from the US-Mexico border zone. It’s an essential effort to humanize the migration phenomenon that transcends data to reveal the textured, lived-in experiences of our community.

Big things don’t happen alone. Meet everyone who helps us achieve our mission to shine light on every amazing human being in our migrant community—it takes us all to make every Journey Story come to life.

“You show care and love. And that’s how life goes on.”
Foday (Gambia)
“I’ve known you now for almost 9 years—for me, that’s a big thing. I wanted to put my story out there and let people know what’s going on, especially [in] this era we live in. Some leaders from political parties are using migrants to get votes, while what they say about migrants is not really the facts. When you don’t come close to the person and talk to the person, you can’t know what’s going on. So what you are doing, I really appreciate it.”
